NHS Student Bursaries - Award Estimate Calculator

The Award Estimate calculator should be used to obtain an estimate of the amount of NHS Bursary you may be entitled to.

The results produced by this calculator will depend entirely on the figures you enter, so you must be careful about accuracy if you are to get meaningful results.

Do not use any commas or special characters when entering your figures as this will produce an inaccurate estimate e.g. you should enter £30,500.99 as 30500.99.

The calculator assumes that your residency and immigration status allows you to be eligible to apply for an NHS Bursary. Please use our Personal Eligibility calculator to determine this. Your final eligibility for an NHS Bursary and your bursary entitlement can only be confirmed once you have submitted a completed bursary application through the Bursary Online Support System (BOSS) and we have received all the requested supporting evidence.

The calculator assumes that you know if you will be classed as a dependent or independent student. Please use our Student Status calculator to determine this. Independent students' bursary entitlement is calculated using your spouse, partner or civil partner's income (if you have one) and dependent students' bursary entitlement is calculated using your parent(s) income.

The Award Estimate calculator cannot be used to calculate or determine bursary awards for:

  • students who commenced courses prior to 1 September 2007
  • single independent students, with no children, who are in receipt of unearned taxable income
  • students undertaking part time courses who expect to continue to receive a salary from employment during the academic year

You are advised not to make any financial commitments based on this bursary calculator or rely on current NHS Bursary Scheme Rules and allowances when planning for subsequent academic years, as these may be subject to review in the future and as a result may be liable to change.

The Department of Health and the NHS Business Services Authority cannot accept any responsibility for any loss incurred (including but not limited to financial loss) by any person who has relied on current rules and allowances for the current or future academic years.
